Beleaguered Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, on monday
bragged that if the uncertain gubernatorial election in Rivers State
was piloted 100 times the PDP would still appear champion.
He made this declaration in Akure during a speech responding to the Rivers State Election Petition Tribunal’s Saturday judgment invalidating the election triumph of Governor Nyesom Wike.
Governor Mimiko, been also the Chairman of the PDP Governor’s Forum, blamed the three-man tribunal panel of allotting a quick judgment. Precisely he quoted the decision to announce a presiding on the election, deprived of waiting for a decision by the Supreme Court on the issue of jurisdiction.
PDP last week submitted a petition interrogating the jurisdiction of the Election Tribunal as it led its evaluation of the election results in Abuja rather than the Rivers State capital of Port Harcourt.
Governor Mimiko furthermore added that he see the ruling “embarrassing” as it was issued less than 48 hours after both parties succumbed their written addresses to the court.
He drew thoughtfulness to the one hundred witnesses, and one thousand documents reviewed by the Election Tribunal. He articulated disbelief that the Election Tribunal could have sufficiently studied these witnesses and documents within 2 days.
It should be remembered that observers in the election, including journalists, disapproved the pre and post-election violence seen during the Rivers State Governorship poll. On Saturday the three-man Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja, detached Nyesom Wike as Governor of Rivers State.
